June Crop Report: 2009 soybean acreage up from last year; peanuts, corn and cotton plantings down
Soybean plantings in North Carolina are at 1.8 million acres, up 7 percent from 2008, according to the USDA June Crop Report. Soybean acreage is the highest since 1985.
Peanut plantings are down 23 percent from last year, to 75,000 acres. Corn acreage is estimated at 860,000, down 4 percent from 2008. Cotton plantings have dropped 12 percent from a year ago, to 380,000 acres.
